James is a highly regarded advisor in all aspects of card issuing and acquiring and is one of Europe’s leading authorities on interchange, payment scheme fees and their impact on issuer and acquirer profitability. 

James started his career at MasterCard Europe, where he was responsible for client profitability solutions and unbundling payment scheme fees to establish a "user pays" model.  As the VP for Business Development in UK, Ireland & Nordics with Mastercard, James led key accounts such as HSBC, Capital One, Bank of Ireland, AIB as well as the scheme's co-branding programmes.  Since setting up Insight in 1999, he has worked with clients across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, be they new or established issuers and acquirers, new market entrants, retailers, processors and other third party providers. He works with clients advising on all aspects of the card lifecycle and has developed a diverse range of profitability models, pricing tools, dashboards and cost of payments calculators for Insight clients.

James has been instrumental in helping issuers, acquirers and merchants to better understand their interchange and network fee structures and has developed the unique Insight+ scheme fee tracking model to automate the audit and review of scheme invoices.

James speaks 4 languages and has a BA Joint Hons Degree in Spanish & Management from the University of Leeds, UK.

Suzanne Holcombe

A founding partner and co-owner of Insight Suzanne has 30+ years experience in the international payments business. She started her career with Mastercard Europe in Brussels, initially in the European and Legal Affairs team, then took on a role in Corporate Development working under the CEO to harmonise internal processes, procedures and policies following the integration of three companies.

Suzanne then joined NFO Research (later acquired by Kantar) as a Senior Consultant working for clients such as Visa, MasterCard, Citibank, Bank of Ireland, GE Capital, American Express.  Later she became the Director of International Business Operations with responsibility for expanding and overseeing the firm's international offices in Europe and Asia.

Since setting up Insight Consultancy in 1999 Suzanne has worked in markets across the world on a wide range of assignments, including customer lifecycle management, new product development, market analysis, benchmark studies on card profitability, RFP management for service providers, end-to-end service quality delivery, POS terminal management best practices, usage and activation toolkit, training seminars and workshops.  She also took on an interim leadership role for Forex Club (online financial trading company) as Chief of Staff, looking after the company's HR, Legal, Change Management, Business Processes and Corporate Social Responsibility functions.

Suzanne has a BA Joint Honours Degree in Modern Languages from the University of Leeds, is based in Madrid and speaks 5 languages.
